!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I'm having the truck towed tomorrow morning to an independent garage that specializes in Toyota trucks to have a used rear end put in for the princely sum of $1000 + tax... cheaper than the $1800+tx that the dealership wanted. A new diff would have been well past 2 grand.

I guess I should be happy this didn't happen on a trail somewhere in the forest of Vermont, right? :-(

What in the world broke on the diff...and HOW! at any rate, was this an e-locker rear? if not, not would be your best chance to get one put in, or ARB/Yukon, etc.

I dunno how it broke. I haven't even off- roaded with it yet... Maybe bad luck, maybe not actually the diff. It's going to be torn down at the other garage and then we'll know for sure.
No locker or other fancy bits, just a regular diff. I thought about putting in an ARB locker, but I'd still need a working diff first, right? I no haz monies for dat...

A new Toyota diff is about $1300-$1400.
The ARB diff is about $1000 + the compressor ($160-$250, I think). A local shop quoted me a used full Toyota rear end (housing, diff, axles, bearings) installed for $850.

But a serious question - if my diff is exploded, can I replace it directly with an ARB locker? Is the ARB locker a full carrier assembly? Or do I need a working diff and then I add the locker?
It's something I'm not sure about...

Just double-checked. The local Canadian distributor is selling them for $1400 Canadian, plus minimum $250 for a compressor. I don't have that kind of cash, unfortunately.
